The « Trademark Clearinghouse » is a worldwide database that centralizes data of the registered trademarks. This is a brand protection mechanism recorded in the new Internet extension program.
The registration of a trademark within the "TMCH" has two main interests:
- Get the opportunity to register in priority a trademark as a domain name in the new Internet extensions (stage called "sunrise period")
- Receive an alert notification for a period of 90 days in case of registration of your trademark by a third party in one of the new extensions
A domain name is a combination of words enabling the access to a website. The purpose of a domain name is to easily remember and communicate the address of a set of servers. A domain name consists of a "label" and an "extension" or "Top-Level-Domain" (TLD) or "suffix".
Example: registry.leclerc: "registry" is the label, "Leclerc" corresponds to the extension
This is the entity (association, company...) in charge of the management of the domain names database of a TLD.
Examples: ACDLec is the registry of .Leclerc; AFNIC is the registry of .FR
